Deep Cuts: The Front Bottoms - "Father" x "Legit Tattoo Gun"

The Front Bottoms Slow Dance to Soft Rock

Prior to signing with Bar None Records, the Front Bottoms put out a self-released six-track EP called Slow Dance to Soft Rock. It is essentially half of what makes up their self-titled debut full-length. A couple cuts that always stood out on the release, in addition to fan favorites "Maps" and "The Beers", were "Father" and "Legit Tattoo Gun".

The former features a blaring horn track, marching drum roll and lines such as: "I had this dream I was hitting my dad with a baseball bat and he is screaming and crying for help". The latter–like all TFB songs–also sports some slightly humorous offbeat lyrics–"I'm pretty sure I am the only guy she's hooked up with tonight, but probably not"–courtesy of frontman Brian Sella and includes an oh so tender piano bridge. A fail-proof combination.
