Ben Gibbard announces solo debut, 'Former Lives'

Ben Gibbard solo

After seven albums, Death Cab For Cutie have pretty much conquered the indie rock world the best a band can. So it only makes sense that frontman Ben Gibbard has now decided to join the solo artist population. He will do so with the release of his debut solo effort Former Lives.

There is not too much information available on the LP at this time, but we do know it will consist of 12 tracks, which were, according to a press release, "written over the course of eight years but didn’t find their fully realized form until" Ben moved from his hometown of Seattle to Los Angeles. We also know that the album was recorded at his friend Aaron Espinoza's studio, The Ship.

Most importantly, we know that FL will surface October 16th, thanks to Barsuk. Some touring will follow. We'll let you know when more details are revealed. We leave you with a clip of Benjamin covering Rilo Kiley, below.
