The highly anticipated collaboration of Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, and OutKast’s André 3000 has finally debuted. Despite all the hype and pressure, the track, “DoYaThing”, is actually pretty awesome.
“DoYaThing” starts out with Gorillaz/Blur frontman Damon Albarn doing his usual sing/talk/rap thing over a peppier-than-usual beat. James Murphy comes in a couple times for a falsetto chorus before André takes over and makes it “DoYaThing” a badass hip-hop track. “DoYaThing” came out of three days in the studio as a part of Converse’s new “Three Artists. One Song” series.
This version of “DoYaThing” is actually something of an extended teaser, with a full 12-minute song coming sometime soon. Gorillaz’s creative mastermind Jamie Hewlett will get a chance to shine on February 29 when a music video for the shorter “DoYaThing” comes out. Listen to the four-minute version of "DoYaThing" below. Grab the mp3 over at Converse.
