Review: Santigold - "Girls"

Girls HBO Soundtrack

The people behind the HBO series Girls recruited Philadelphia emcee Santigold to record a new track inspired by the much-hyped TV show. As with most similar soundtrack ventures, the cut seems thrown together and superficial in nature. With lines like, "Here we all are tryin' to make ends meet/got no cash got no money but we runnin' the streets", the cut is basically a trailer in musical form. Also, instead of writing a hook, White opted to save time by just repeating "Girls" and unfortunately it doesn't work as well as it did for the Beastie Boys.

GIRLS: Music from the HBO Original Series, Vol. 1 becomes available January 8th via Fueled By Ramen. If you aren't sick of it yet, Santigold did put out one of the better singles of 2012.

Yeah, this is not very good. Can't stand the show either.
