Review: Guards - "Coming True"

Guards Coming True

Apparently, blazing melodies and straightforward-yet-excellent lyrics run in the Follin bloodline. Like his sister (Cults frontwoman) Madeline, Richie James Follin knows how to deliver strikingly firm and sincere vocals, making his ability to channel everyday troubles into noteworthy indie pop tracks truly clear. At times sporting a confident rock edge and at other times oozing relationship-related angst, the guitar-driven number takes us through the ups and downs of young love. And yes, some ooh-wa-oohs are involved.

"Coming True" is the second single from the NYC trio's debut full-length, In Guards We Trust, out this February. You can download it for free over at Stereogum (stream below).
