Review: Mac DeMarco - "Ode to Viceroy"

Mac DeMarco 2

If you've seen Mac DeMarco live or know him personally you learned early on that the 22 year old songwriter has an eccentric sense of humor. Though "Ode to Viceroy" may come off as a totally sincere love ballad and, well, it probably is for the most part, we do have to keep in mind the subject at hand is a brand of cigarettes. After all, whether the croon is fully genuine or not, having your best song to date center around such a matter is humor in itself. Fortunately, the impossible-to-forge organic sway, hazy instrumentation and moody lyrics all add up to catching lightning in a bottle.

Look for "Ode to Viceroy" on Demarco's debut full-length 2, which landed at retailers last week thanks to Captured Tracks. Stream it below.
