Review: Local Natives - "Breakers"

Local Natives Breakers

Close to three years after releasing their debut full-length, Local Natives pick up where they left off. Whether "Breakers" strikes you as a song that could have easily been slipped into the tracklist of Gorilla Manor or rather a cut you feel you already heard on their first album, the group's ability to write emotive indie rock gems is still as apparent as ever.

Most bands need time to grow into a distinct sound, some change their musical approach with each release and others never attempt to reach any level of uniqueness. Taylor Rice and crew, instead, hit the ground running with a flavor of their own and judging by the Los Angeles outfit's new single, it seems as if the guys decided to not fix what isn't broken in the hope of perfecting their craft. Not a bad idea at all. Let's just hope they're still holding back some of the LP's best tracks.
