Review: Kendrick Lamar ft. Dr. Dre - "Compton"

Kendrick Lamar Good Kid Maad City deluxe

On our review of his last single "The Art of Peer Pressure" we asserted that while good, Kendrick Lamar was most likely not going to reach the level of hip-hop's elite. With the help of Dre, Lamar has proven our judgement a little premature.

"Compton" has the hooks and replay value of a rap hit, without any of the insufferable Top 40 bullshit. The up-and-coming emcee stays on redundant rap themes and yet manages to hold our attention. Can't say Lamar will infiltrate heavy hitter territory for sure, but the opportunity is definitely his to lose.
