Review: The xx - "Chained"

The xx Chained

While "Chained" embodies all the same aesthetics found on The xx's first LP, it also sees the UK trio making up for Coexist's lack of progression with a perfectionist songwriting approach. The group's ability to delicately-craft lyrics that are simple yet potent and place them over a meticulously-produced electronic backbone adds an enormous amount of steam to their growing influence in today's music realm. "We used to be closer than this" may not be an overly captivating hook, but gracefully placed harmonies, ambitious vocal ascensions and distinct percussion additives keep things interesting.
