Review: Kendrick Lamar - "Backseat Freestyle"

Kendrick Lamar Good Kid Maad City

Our views on Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid, Maad City output so far have been back and forth. Luckily, "Backseat Freestyle" is another track that reminds us why we fell in love with the poised emcee in the first place. The cut embodies all the dumb fun vibes that make young adults gravitate towards hip-hop without the redundant, poorly-conceived rhymes. There are definitely over-the-top lines, but we're going to give Lamar the benefit of the doubt that jumping from statements like "Pray my dick get big as the Eiffel Tower, so I can fuck the world for 72 hours" to "Martin had a dream" is all in the name of humor.
