It has been a long journey for Portugal. The Man. Six LP’s later, they are slated to release their first album with a major record label, Atlantic Records. In The Mountain, In The Cloud won’t hit shelves till July 19th, but the Alaskan-bred quintet have been giving fans a taste of the new stuff on their current headlining tour. Portugal played Webster Hall in the East Village Friday night in front of their largest sold out show to date. Three days later, they moved downstairs to the Studio @ Webster Hall for an intimate, private show for no more than 300 people.

As the fog filled the tiny venue and the light show captivated the audience, Porgutal. The Man did what they do best, jam on some heavy – trippy at times – guitar licks. The show was short, but fans responded well to the new stuff and begged for an encore after the fan favorite “People Say” closed the set. Bassist Zachary Carothers asked for permission on stage to play one more, and after he got the nod, the place erupted.  If you are in an up-and-coming band, I encourage you to go see Portugal. The Man and take notes – These guys know how to get the job done exceptionally well. -Alex Napoliello
