10 Rising Acts You Need To See At Bamboozle 2011

Bamboozle crowd

NJ's Bamboozle is less then ten days away. Most of you already know what major bands you are looking forward to seeing most, but in-between some of your go-to acts you may need to kill some time. Below we've put together a list, in no particular order, of ten up-and-coming artists you may want to consider checking out during your long Bamboozle weekend.

Tigers Jaw

Tigers Jaw band live PA

This indie-punk band has been gaining a ton of attention lately, but not just in the traditional way of touring and doing press cycles. Word of mouth has truly given this band a great start to a hopefully long career. Tigers Jaw already have a decent amount of die-hard fans. Check them out for yourself during Bamboozle's first night, Friday, April 29th and you might just become one of the pack. The Scranton, PA group will be supporting their lastest LP Two Worlds, which dropped this past November via Run For Cover Records.

Das Racist

Das Racist

The self-proclaimed "Neo-soul/Shoegaze/Trip Hop" trio will bring their interesting brand of hip-hop to Bamboozle next Saturday, April 30th. The Brooklyn based group have been on the road dishing out their unconventional live performances for the past year in support of the two LPs they have managed to put out in 2010. You can't really put Das Racist's music into a box or genre of any sorts. As one of their Last.fm commenters put it, these guys are "dope in the weirdest way".

Bo Burnham

Bo Burnham

Bo Burnham got his start when his musical/comedy youtube videos went viral back in 2008. It is a success story that is beginning to sound all too familiar these days. Either way Bo, isn't like other 15 minute fame internet stars, the 20 year old comedian has since gone on to put out three releases via Comedy Central. His most recent being #1 (US Billboard Comedy) Words Words Words, which has led the young talent to score slots on many late night talk shows and major music & comedy festivals. Burnham will hit Bamboozle's Pass The Mic Stage on Friday, April 29th.

River City Extension

River City Extension

River City Extension may be a band you've been hearing a lot about lately. Whether you have actually gotten around to giving them a good listen or not this year's Bamboozle will the best place to give the act your full attention. Though RCE's 2nd LP The Unmistakeable Man happens to be one of our favorite records of 2010, the group's live show is even more intriguing. You will be able to check out the folk-rock 8-piece Saturday, April 30th on the Buzz Band Stage.

Man Overboard

Man Overboard

Pop-punkers Man Overboard will make their Bamboozle debut next week. Since the release of last summer's Real Talk, Man Overboard have been propelled as one of pop-punk's fastest rising bands. The group has toured Europe, Japan and the U.S. with bands such as New Found Glory, H20, Rufio and Senses Fail. Man Overboard is set to release their compilation album The Human Highlight Reel via Run For Cover Records. - TP

Animals As Leaders

Animals As Leaders

Washington DC's Animals As Leaders are sort of like other metal bands in the way that their songs are usually heavy, fast and impressively intricate. With that said they manage to completely set themselves apart from the entire metal scene. The progressive, all-instrumental trio take their (often) long songs in a fresh direction that pushes their ability as players. We caught the group live at NYC's Terminal 5 while opening for Underoath and Thursday. Our thoughts? Lets just say you better make sure to be at their performance at Bamboozle's Buzz Band Stage on Friday, April 29th.

Hank & Cupcakes

Hand and Cupcakes

Dance-pop duo, Hank & Cupakes are set to hit Bamboozle Saturday, April 30th. The drum and bass pair just released a new single titled "Hit", which happens to be their best output yet. Who do they sound like? Well, I can't help, but make The Ting Tings comparison, not just because they share the same boy/girl, bass/drum set up, but also because their hard hitting pop songs are just as infectious. Whether that type of music is your style or not, it'll be hard not to enjoy their over-the-top live performance come next Saturday.

Actions Item

Action Item

NJ's own Action Item will make their second appearance at the Bamboozle next week. Action Item have been all over the place lately with performances at the NCAA's Fanfest in Newark, Six Flags Over Texas and a recent West Coast headlining tour. You might have seen the band in the crowd on Dancing With The Stars and the Kids Choice Awards. After Bamboozle, Action Item will head on a Canadian tour with Allstar Weekend followed by a full U.S. summer tour with The Summer Set and fellow Bamboozle performers We The Kings and The Downtown Fiction. - TP

Mitchy C

Mitchy C

A long time musician that has been in and out of bands for as long as he can remember, Mitchy C has finally found himself as a solo artist. The NJ singer/songwriter will have arguably his biggest weekend as a performer yet, as he is the only act playing all three days of this year's Bamboozle. Mitch put out his impressive debut EP Bridge and Tunnel this past October, which features the catchy single "Little Things". Catch the pop-rock artist on the Buzz Bands Stage Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Like we said before, he's playing all three days, which means you have no excuse to miss him!

Transit

Transit band

Indie-rockers Transit will take the stage at Bamboozle next week and things couldn't be better for the band. Since announcing their signing to Rise Records late last year, Transit have released the Something Left Behind acoustic EP and hit the road with Less Than Jake, Senses Fail and labelmates Man Overboard. The band is set to hit the studio in June for their Rise Records debut. You can expect the new album to arrive in September. - TP
