Interview: Kaitlin Reilly

Has your traditionally training in opera helped you in your current musical endeavors? i guess it has, but not in an obvious way.

I think it comes out in my singing a bit, but I never consciously.  I think its just ingrained in me.

Who are you biggest musical influences?

I'm a huge fan of early rock and roll like Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Elvis.  I grew up in Detroit, so Motown was always a favorite and constantly being played. I steal a lot of ideas from the Supremes.

And what are some of your non- musical influences?

I guess you could say my surroundings. Leaving Detroit, moving to New York.

If you could collaborate with any current musician or group: who would it be and why?

I'd love to collaborate with PJ Harvey.  She is one of my favorite artists.  Her songs are amazing and her voice is incredible.  I saw her last week in London and was pretty blown away by the performance.

What are some of your goals for 2011? Lots of touring and lots of writing.

I'm working on a full length album right now, which should be out in September.
