Interview: Moving Mountains

Moving Mountains

Since the release of 2007's Pnuema, Moving Mountains have been seen on the road with bands such as Polar Bear Club, Say Anything and Thursday. The indie rockers from Purchase, NY are set to release their second full length entitled Waves on May 10th via Triple Crown Records.

The band is also set to perform on this year's Warped Tour. You can catch them in Brooklyn this Friday for the Vans Warped Tour kickoff show. Drummer Nicholas Pizzolato answered a few questions about the new album.

1) How excited is the band about the release of Waves?

We are very excited for a few reasons. For one, it's our first release in
over two years. We've been touring off PNEUMA and FOREWORD for what seems
like forever so we're really itching to share these new songs and play them
live. It's also the first real full length written and recorded as a four
piece, so in a way it's more representative of us as a band.

2) What was the recording process for the album?

We tracked the album in Greg's basement studio in about 4 months. Like past
releases, Greg produced and engineered it. We originally planned on mixing
it ourselves again, but decided to go with Matt Goldman in the end. We're
really happy we did because he brought a fresh perspective to the mix. We've
done the "self produced" thing on every Moving Mountains release up to this
point, so we figured it was time to reach out to someone else with mixing.

3) How will Waves compare to the band's previous material?

Naturally we've grown a lot since we wrote both PNEUMA and FOREWORD, so
WAVES is far more representative of our musical tastes as of now. Our past
work sort of pegged us in a certain genre, so with this album we tried to
push a bit towards something else.

4) Who created the album's cover artwork?

Our good friend, Sam Kaufman. He's been designing our merch for a while and
we wanted to work with him on something "bigger." He really created a whole
identity for the album which we've never had before. Graphically he really
made it come to life and feel complete.

5) The band will be on this year's Warped Tour. How excited is everyone about
that?

It's pretty unreal. We're not sure what to expect, but we've heard lots of
stories from friends. Apparently it's something like summer camp for rock
bands. We're pretty excited none the less.

7) Did any of the members attend past Warped Tours?

I think we've all been to at least one Warped Tour at one point or another.

8) What are the band's plans for the rest of 2010?

Touring and promoting the new album. We'll be announcing some exciting
things throughout the year.

Catch Moving Mountains on this year's Warped Tour with stops at Susquehanna Bank Center on July 21st and Monmouth Park Raceway on July 24th.
