The Magnetic Fields announce tour & tenth album - 'Love at the Bottom of the Sea'

The Magnetic Fields Bottom of the Sea

Boston’s Stephin Merritt is at it once again with the Magnetic Fields. The genre-evading group has released details of a tenth studio album and a North American tour. Merritt has apparently been recording the album in L.A., San Francisco, and New York with Claudia Gonson, John Woo, Sam Davol, Johny Blood, Shirley Simms, and accordionist Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket).

After a 12 year separation, the Magnetic Fields are back with Merge Records, who produced the band’s concept masterpiece 69 Love Songs. The new project will be titled Love at the Bottom of the Sea and will be released on March 6. Merge will is selling eggshell vinyl editions of the album for the first 300 buyers and signed Magnetic Fields posters and buttons for the first 100 preorders.

The Magnetic Fields will also be touring the U.S. and Canada in support of the album. The band will be on the road starting in Hudson, NY on March 6 and ending in Atlanta on April 13 with stops in Philadelphia, New York, Austin (for South by Southwest), Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, L.A., Oakland, Chicago, Iowa City, Toronto, Montreal, New York, Boston, DC, and Carrboro. They’re also playing the Jeff Mangum-curated ATP festival in the U.K. on March 11. Check out the “Love at the Bottom of the Sea” artwork above, tracklist below, and tour schedule under that.
