Thanksgiving Events 2011

Thanksgiving is here and there's plenty of shows to go around. Whether you're trying to ditch the family on Turkey Day or if you're a turkey trying to avoid being someone's meal, there's something for everyone this week.

 

Wednesday, November 23 - Thanksgiving Eve


Mary J. Blige - Terminal 5 - 7pm

Nine time Grammy award winning artist Mary J Blige is back with her new album My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act I). The NYC R&B icon will perform the original My Life album in its entirety at Terminal 5. The original My Life album was released in 1994 and was certified double platinum.

 

Thursday - Irving Plaza - 6:30pm

2011 was a pretty good year for Thursday with the release of their sixth album No Devolucion and hitting the road with bands such as Underoath, My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday. Unfortunately the band is calling it quits. Catch them at Irving Plaza with Southern rockers Maylene and the Sons of Disaster and others.

 

Five Finger Death Punch, Hatebreed - Best Buy Theatre - 6pm

What happens when you have heavy metal act Five Finger Death Punch and NY hardcore act Hatebreed in the same venue? A whole lotta headbangin' and moshin'! FFDP's new album American Capitalist debuted at number 3 on the Billboard Top 200, selling over 90,000 copies. All That Remains & Rains are also on the bill.

 

QXTs Blacklight Party - QXTs - 10pm - $10

If you're not in the mood for a concert,come to Newark's own QXTs and dance the night away! The DJs will spin the best in Electronic,Industrial,New Wave and more. The club will be illuminated in black light so be sure to wear your best UV reflective clothes!

 

2011 AP Tour w/ Four Year Strong - Starland Ballroom - 6pm

This year's 2011 AP Fall Tour features some of the best pop punk bands right now. Headlined by Four Year Strong, the bill also features Gallows, Title Fight, The Swellers and Sharks.

 

River City Extension - The Stone Pony - 6:30pm

River City Extension have been all over the place this year. The band recently went into the studio to record their upcoming album. Perhaps they'll play a new song or two? Catch R.C.E. at their annual holiday at the Stone Pony.

 

Murphy's Law - Dingbatz - 7pm -$12

NYC hardcore band Murphy's Law will make their way to Dingbatz on Thanksgiving Eve. Joining them will be NJ's own Hub City Stompers.

 

Funkmaster Flex presents Hip Hop Legends - BB Kings - 11pm
Join Funkmaster Flex as he hosts an evening filled with some of hip hops legendary acts. Who's gonna be there? EMPD, Ghostface Killah, Black Moon,Special Ed, Black Sheep & Black Rob.

 

 

Thursday, November 24 - Thanksgiving

Meek Mill and Jadakiss -Webster Hall - 10pm
On Thanksgiving, rappers Meek Mill & Jadakiss will perform at a special Thanksgiving show at Webster Hall. Mill recently released the Dreamchasers mixtape and can be heard on the Self Made Vol. 1 EP. Jada released the mixtape I Love You (A Dedication To My Fans) this past May.

 

 

Friday November 25 - Black Friday

Moe. - Terminal 5 - 7pm

Buffalo, NY jam band Moe. have have been rocking the globe since the late 80s. Performances at Woodstock 99, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza have led to a dedicated fanbase. Next year the band will release their new album What Happened To The Lalas? The band will also perform at Terminal 5 on Saturday.

 

Electric Sun - Maxwells - 8pm - $8

Jet Lag Gemini guitarist Vlad Holiday is out to make new noise with his new band Electric Sun. Catch them at Maxwells along with Ionia and Janet LaBelle. The band recently released their debut EP The Gilded Cage. You can pick it up on Itunes.

 


Saturday November 26

The Early November - Starland Ballroom - 6pm


The Early November will be performing at Starland Ballroom this Saturday. This will be the band's first NJ show since Bamboozle 2007. Hit The Lights, Young Statues and A Great Big Pile of Leaves are set to open.

 

Guster - Wellmont Theatre - 6pm
If you caught Boston rockers Guster on tour with Jack's Mannequin this past summer then you know how great their live shows are.  The band is also performing @ The Wellmont Theatre on Friday. Brett Dennen will open both shows.

 

 

The Fearless Friends Tour w/ Blessthefall - Gramercy Theatre - 6pm
The Fearless Friends Tour features some of Fearless Records' top bands along with some new ones. Come check out Blessthefall, The Word Alive, Motionless In White, Tonight Alive and Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!

 

Sunday November 27 

Hit The Lights and others - The Studio @ Webster Hall - 6pm
Hit The Lights recently released the Invicta EP & will put out their Razor & Tie Records debut next year. HTL will be joined by The Story So Far, Divided By Friday, A Loss For Words & Trees Above Mandalay.

 

Babyface - BB Kings Blues Club and Grill - 8pm
Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds is one of the most recognizable names in R&B. The Indianapolis native has sold over 8 million records over his 25+ year career. He's also responsible for writing/producing several hits from artists such as Fall Out Boy, Lil Wayne, Mariah Carey and Beyonce.
