Not even rain could stop people from coming to the 2011 AP Fall Tour. This year's tour featured a diverse group of bands including Four Year Strong, Gallows, Title Fight, The Swellers and Sharks. While there weren't many people at Irving Plaza when doors open, the crowd got bigger as the night progressed.
U.K.'s Sharks opened the show with their old school brand of punk rock reminiscent of fellow U.K bands The Clash and Stiff Little Fingers. The crowd wasn't that much into it, but that didn't stop the band from dishing out a great live performance. Sharks released The Joys of Living 2008-2010 earlier this year and will release their upcoming album in 2012.
The Swellers were up next, and the crowd couldn't wait to see one of punk rock's rising bands. Before the start of "2009", vocalist Nick Diener asked for the biggest circle pit, and the crowd certainly delivered. The band ended their set with "The Best I've Ever Had" which led to a huge sing-along.
Title Fight wasted no time with getting the crowd into a frenzy. The Kingston, PA group easily stole the show with their energetic performance and the immense response from the crowd. The crowd sung along to every word as the band performed cuts from their latest album Shed as well as track from various splits/7".
Many people were curious to see how Wade McNeil would handle his new position as vocalist for UK band Gallows. Sirens came on as members of the punk band came out one by one. When Wade finally stepped out for the track "The Riverbed", the crowd response was favorable. McNeil handled the new gig very well even with some of the criticism surrounding the band as of late. After Wade dove into the crowd during "London Is The Reason", a huge circle pit surrounded the vocalist. For their last song "Orchestra of Wolves", former Gallows vocalist Frank Carter joined the group onstage for a surprise appearance.
Around 9:30, the entire crowd started chants of "Four Year Strong" as they waited patiently for the Boston pop-punk/hardcore group. Everyone in the venue went nuts when the band came out to open with the track "What The Hell Is A Gigawatt?" Lights emerged from the stage with every chord that was played. The flashing disco ball during the track "Enemy of The World" confused some in the crowd while others enjoyed it. Four Year Strong performed a few tracks from their new album In Some Way, Shape Or Form which was hit-or-miss at times. For their encore, FYS played the song "Wasting Time (Eternal Summer)" which got everyone moving. One person even jumped from the balcony into the crowd!
