Watch the Mountain Goats perform an 'All Eternals Deck' outtake - "Rotten Stinking Mouthpiece"

Mountain Goats

Earlier this week, The Mountain Goats performed an outtake from their latest album, All Eternals Deck, for Minnesota Public Radio’s Wits at the Fitzgerald Theater event in St. Paul. John Darnielle and crew provided musical accompaniment to the event, which was headlined by funnyman John Hodgman, and took place at the home of NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion.

The track, “Rotten Stinking Mouthpiece” was left off All Eternals because it was too long and didn’t “want to play with the others”, according to Darnielle. Semisonic bassist John Munson and Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett as the Box Dwellers lend their hands on the country guitar-driven, melancholy tune. Check out the live version of “Rotten Stinking Mouthpiece”, and Darnielle’s explanation of its title and fate, below.
