Watch Craig Finn, Tommy Ramone, Patrick Stickles, Dave Hause, and Jesse Malin cover the Replacements

Craig Finn covering The Replacements

An all-star, multi-generational crew of rock stars did a killer homage to the Replacements' "Within Your Reach", "Sixteen Blue", and "Bastards of Young" at Bowery Electric earlier this week. The posse was made up of the Hold Steady's Craig Finn, Tommy Ramone of the Ramones, Titus Andronicus' Patrick Stickles, The Loved Ones' Dave Hause, and Jesse Malin of Heart Attack and D Generation.

The boys took to the stage on Wednesday at Bowery Electric as a part of the premiere of the Replacements documentary, Color Me Obsessed. First Craig Finn gets a little help from Lifter Puller's Tad Kubler to perform "Within Your Reach". The track comes from the Replacement's second album, Hootenanny, and Finn totally does the already fantastic song justice. Next Patrick Stickles does one of the Replacement's most beautiful songs, the angsty, sexually confused "Sixteen Blue", off the classic Let It Be.

The real highlight of the show, though, is when Finn, Ramone, Stickles, Hause, and Malin finish off the ceremony with a group performance of “Bastards of Young” from the Replacements’ fourth album, Tim. Looking like the fanboys that they surely all are, the boys all scream and shout through the cover, clearly having a ton of fun. Their version is pretty all over the place, but seeing the excitement in the eyes of these rock icons more than makes up for it. Also the video starts with a short interview with Craig Finn emphasizing how great of a night this was for him. Check out all three clips below and listen to the  Replacements’ originals below each.
