The National @ Wellmont Theatre 9.24.10

Brooklyn band The National played a sold out show at Montclair's Wellmont Theatre last night, September 24th. The Brooklyn based group started off their set with "Runaway", a track from their most recent album High Violet, which came out last May through 4AD. The show acted as a kick-off to their US tour that will wrap up October 18th in Denver.

The group will then head to Europe for a month starting in November. All of The Nationals upcoming tour dates can be found their website. The setlist from their Wellmont Theatre show can be found below. If you haven't yet pick up their latest album High Violet iTunes.

never got into this band, but Mistake For Strangers seems like a cool song.

first time seeing either group. loved both. Owen was pretty cool. liked what he was doing alot. i thought one song was better then most of the national's set. not to say i didnt like the National. In fact National was a great performance, just not every song was a stand out for me.

the best national songs that night, for me anyway, were Anyone's Ghost, Conversation 16, The Apartment Story, England, Fake Empire and Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks (simply perfect performance not that it was like the cd, but because of what it added to it. just incredibley jubilent)

probably like more but they played their faces off its hard to remember all the stand out songs. I would defintely see them again. 1st time seeing either group. highly recommended.

ps I also saw LCD the night before which was an out of this world performance so i may have colored my listening experience a wee bit. LCD is a dance band whereas National is alot more introspective although they get rocking and loud. the band played their faces off.

but in either case I would see all the above mentioned groups again. great all around musical experiences.
