Indie rock juggernaut Ted Leo made a special appearance at New Brunswick's Meat Town USA last night. The overly packed basement show was originally set just to feature Nashville's Pujol and Canada's The Danks, but Meat Town announced with two days notice that the punk-rock veteran and NJ native would be stopping by for a solo performance. This wasn't Pujol's first time playing Meat Town and you could notice by the crowds reception. Even with the crowd constantly knocking into the band and having their pedals kicked around the lofi punk/shoegaze group somehow managed to plow through their set almost flawlessly.

Due to demands by the crowd, the quartet closed their set with their song "Too Safe", which you can download below. Ted Leo played an excitingly long set of songs that were picked as he went along. He obliged to many requests, threw in older songs and even played a cover of Aimee Mann's "Freeway". Best of all, even though he was playing solo that didn't stop the NB crowd from starting mosh pits during certain parts of the performance. Ted Leo will be off for the rest of the summer, but will head out on a national tour come this September. He currently has no other local dates listed.

You people are idiots. Obviously the photos show a basement where ILLEGAL shows are playing and I don't think "thenjunderground.com" is that hidden a site where police wouldn't check it. And saying the real name Meat Town? It's not that difficult to figure that one out geniuses. Good job bringing attention to a house that is only going to get more noise tickets. Get a clue, idiots, if you want to keep doing "underground" things, don't post about how awesome[!] it was on the internet.

Meat Town publicly lists their shows. Their myspace page is actually the first thing that comes up when you search Meat Town USA...
