Rutgers University held their annual Rutgersfest this past Friday, April 30th. The bill featured a mix of Hip-hop and Rock acts. Talib Kweli and Brand New were the headliners of the all day fest, which kicked off around noon and came to a close around 8pm. The fest also featured plenty of rides, games and other things of that nature. If I had to guess I'd say anywhere from 20-30,000 people were in attendance of the festival. J. Cole, P.O.S. and Battle of the Bands winner Reality Addiction were also on the bill.

Brooklyn rapper Talib Kweli took the stage around 4:30 to an extremely reactive crowd. During his set he was joined by producer/friend Hi-Tek. The two will also be putting out their second album together, again under the name Reflection Enternal on May 18th and will be titled Revolutions Per Minute. The duo played 3 new songs off the record, all of which were received positively by the crowd. Kay M also made a guest appearance. You can check out a video of that here. Overall the crowd seemed to think Talib fulfilled the hip-hop portion of the fest perfectly.

Brand New took the stage around 6pm after being hyped up by Rutgersfest DJ/Hype Man and jumped right into "Sink" off their latest record Daisy. The Long Island group went on to play set made up of songs mostly off their last two records. Fan favorites seemed to be "Ok I Believe, But My Tommy Gun Don't" and "Seventy Times 7". Overall the crowd response was great, even though I'd say there were still some in attendance that hadn't realized Brand New had outgrown their 1st record a long time ago. The set ended with Jesse Lacey performing "Play Crack The Sky" with just himself and the highly audible crowd shouting out every word.
