Re-Union Weekend

Lifetime Court Tavern

As the summer tour season comes to an end, some of New Jersey’s greatest bands are coming back to their home state to put on shows for devoted fans who’ve waited patiently all summer. The most noted re-union show this past weekend were the Bouncing Souls two-day run at Webster Hall. They brought back Lifetime and 7 Seconds to celebrate their 20th Anniversary. I was able to catch the Friday show with 7 Seconds and the energy in that place was indescribable. The sweat, beer showers, and lively mosh pits were reminiscent of a Souls NB basement show. The only difference was a larger venue and thousands more fans. The fans that fought their way to the stage were rewarded with being able to share the mic with front man Greg Attonito and sing the Souls most noted songs.

Other homecoming shows this weekend were held at The Court Tavern in New Brunswick. Friday night, a lively crowd packed into the basement to appreciate Lifetime. On Saturday, the same turnout showed up to hear Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem perform some solo acoustic stuff.

It’s a great sigh of relief to know that these bands haven’t forgotten about their New Jersey underground roots and are willing to give back to the fans who’ve been their since day one. I just got off the phone with Alex Levine, the bassist from The Gaslight Anthem, and he assures that a show at the Court Tavern is not out of the question. The band will be home for a couple months to write their new album, so keep your head up for another homecoming show at the Court.

Last weekend was awesome. Too bad I missed the Lifetime show though. This weekend is going to be even better though. End of summer shows are usually retarded.
