Meat Locker 7.25.09

Matt Rauch of Tourmaline

Rock band Tourmaline

The headliner, Tourmaline took the stage at about midnight and played for about 45 minutes. The set was short, but great. Matt Rauch and crew played mostly songs off their latest record, The Swindle, but also debuted a few new tunes. The performance ended with instruments being thrown and a drum kit being torn apart, the outfit refused an encore due to their equipment already being spread across the stage, either way I doubt anyone was let down.

Tourmaline are currently demoing for their new record, which they will be begin recording this fall with Joe McGrath (AFI, Green Day, Ryan Adams). They also, just collaborated with Daryl from Run DMC. No word on when that track will be available yet.

Set List:

  • Yesterday Always Forgets
  • Afraid of the Same
  • The Swindle
  • **New Song**
  • Prepare. Plan. Stay Informed
  • Come Unity

Those Mockingbirds

Adam Birds of Those Mockingbirds

Those Mockingbirds in North Jersey

Adam of those Mocking birds rocking out

Those Mockingbirds are a fairly new group, but have been making their presence known in the NJ scene rather quickly. Saturday was their Meat Locker debut, and they were by all means prepared. They played an energetic set without sacrificing their sound and the crowd definitely took notice.

TMB have just released 3 new songs, which you can download for free. They also will be announcing some very special news in the near future, so definitely keep an eye out for these guys (and gal).

The Bootleg Flyers

Bootleg Flyers playing a show in Montclair

Great folk rock with attitude and that New Jersey touch. Awesome bandanas as well, what more could you want? The Bootleg Flyers have been building a bit of a following in the North Jersey area with their frequent appearances at the Locker. These guys will be hitting the studio real soon, so hopefully you'll have some new quality folk rock to jam too soon.

Mount McKinley

Mount McKinley indie band

Mount McKinley are a band hailing from Summit, New Jersey, but they don't play what most people would consider the Jersey sound. This two-some plays great indie rock soaked in reverb. Most indie bands have trouble pulling off their highly FX oriented sound live, luckily this was not the case for Mount McKinley. If you dig Real Estate, Abe Viogoda or The Oh Sees, this is band you definitely want to check out.
